BREAKING: Federal High Court in Abuja Remands Sowore in Kuje Correctional Centre

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the remand of activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of an application related to the revocation of his bail.

The ruling was delivered on Monday by Justice Mohammed Umar after dismissing an application filed by Sowore requesting the judge to withdraw from the case over allegations of bias. The court held that the matter would proceed under the current judge.

Following the decision, the court directed that Sowore remain in custody until the hearing and determination of a motion seeking a stay of the earlier order that revoked his bail and issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

Sowore’s new legal representative, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN), filed the application challenging the bail revocation and requesting a suspension of its enforcement pending further proceedings. The Federal High Court subsequently fixed June 24, 2026, for the hearing of the application.

The case has continued to attract national attention due to its implications for judicial processes, political activism, and freedom of expression in Nigeria. Public discussions have intensified as supporters and observers closely monitor the legal proceedings involving the activist and publisher.

Sowore, who is also the publisher of Sahara Reporters and a prominent political figure, arrived at the court premises accompanied by supporters before the ruling was delivered.

The outcome of the June 24 hearing is expected to determine whether the court will suspend the earlier orders and reconsider the conditions surrounding his bail status.
