The drive to boost renewable energy and industrial development in Abia State has received a major boost with the arrival of a delegation from the People’s Republic of China to Nigeria for discussions on the proposed establishment of a solar manufacturing company in the state.
The investment initiative is being facilitated by MD Nwakanma Nigeria Limited in partnership with the Abia State Government. The project is expected to strengthen the state’s industrial base, expand renewable energy production, and attract more foreign direct investment into Nigeria.
According to a statement signed by the Chief Executive Officer of MD Nwakanma Nigeria Limited, Engr. Madu Dennis Nwakanma, the proposed solar manufacturing plant represents a significant step toward accelerating Abia State’s industrialization agenda, promoting economic diversification, and advancing clean energy solutions.
Once completed, the facility is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities, encourage technology transfer, develop local technical expertise, and position Abia State as a major hub for solar energy manufacturing in Nigeria and across West Africa.

The arrival of the Chinese delegation further reflects the growing confidence of international investors in the investment-friendly policies and business environment championed by the administration of Governor Alex C. Otti. The project is also expected to contribute to sustainable economic growth while supporting Nigeria’s transition to renewable energy.

He expressed appreciation for the support of the Abia State Government and acknowledged the contributions of Hon. Rowland Chinwendu Dennis, Leo Obioma Oti, and Hon.
