The political crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State appears to be deepening, following a strongly worded statement by the Reality Organisation accusing some party leaders of high-handedness, intolerance and actions capable of creating further divisions ahead of the 2027 elections.
The organisation’s reaction followed a communiqué reportedly issued by the APC State Working Committee against Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who represents Abia North Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
In a statement signed by Dimgba Okereke on behalf of the Reality Organisation, the group warned that continued exclusion, intimidation and what it described as selective disciplinary measures could trigger the emergence of a faction within the Abia APC.
The organisation specifically criticised Chijioke Chukwu and his associates, accusing them of attempting to control the affairs of the party in a manner that could undermine its unity and electoral prospects.
According to the group, some individuals currently occupying influential positions within the Abia APC were formerly members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and only recently became active within the APC.
The Reality Organisation argued that such individuals should not be allowed to undermine the efforts of long-standing APC members who, according to the group, worked over the years to establish and sustain the party in Abia State.
The controversy reportedly centres on comments made by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu during a television interview concerning the likely outcomes of the 2027 presidential and governorship elections.
The organisation said Kalu was asked whether President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would win the 2027 presidential election and responded in the affirmative. It added that he was also asked whether Governor Alex Otti would win the Abia governorship election and equally answered yes.
However, the group stressed that when Kalu was asked whether the APC had an alliance with Governor Otti, he reportedly answered no.
Based on this, the Reality Organisation questioned the decision to interpret the senator’s comments as anti-party activity.
The group maintained that predicting an electoral outcome should not automatically be interpreted as endorsing a political candidate, arguing that political analysis and political endorsement are fundamentally different.
It therefore challenged the Abia APC leadership to explain precisely how Kalu’s comments violated the provisions of the party’s constitution.
Rather than pursuing disciplinary action, the organisation said the senator’s prediction should serve as an opportunity for the APC leadership to examine its political strength and weaknesses ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The group argued that if the party genuinely disagrees with Kalu’s assessment, its priority should be to strengthen its internal structures, reconcile aggrieved members, mobilise supporters and develop a political strategy capable of changing the electoral dynamics in the state.
The Reality Organisation also accused the Abia APC leadership of applying what it described as double standards in dealing with political disagreements.
It cited an earlier article reportedly authored by individuals associated with the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, which, according to the organisation, predicted political difficulties for Senator Kalu even if he secured the APC senatorial ticket.
The group questioned why similar disciplinary concerns were allegedly not raised at the time.
It argued that the difference in reactions demonstrates what it described as selective outrage and political hypocrisy within the party.
The organisation further stressed that no individual or group should regard the APC in Abia State as personal property.
It specifically stated that neither Senator Benjamin Kalu, Chijioke Chukwu nor any other political group should have the power to transform the party into a structure where dissent is punished and alternative political opinions are treated as disloyalty.
According to the statement, the APC should remain an inclusive political platform for members who have contributed to its growth, particularly those who remained committed to the party during difficult political periods.
The organisation consequently issued a strong warning that continued segregation, intimidation and alleged impunity could lead genuine APC members in Abia State to establish what it described as a dedicated State Working Committee to provide what it considers more inclusive leadership.
It stressed that such a move would not be an indication of weakness but rather a response to what it described as persistent political exclusion.
The Reality Organisation also urged the APC leadership to recognise that political positions are temporary and that no individual should assume permanent ownership of the party.
It said the ongoing disagreement should be resolved through dialogue, internal reconciliation and democratic engagement rather than threats or disciplinary measures.
The group maintained that Senator Kalu’s prediction should generate introspection within the Abia APC rather than persecution.
It challenged the party to prove the prediction wrong through effective organisation, reconciliation of members, credible candidate selection, grassroots mobilisation and a convincing campaign ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The organisation concluded that electoral victory cannot be achieved through internal threats, selective disciplinary proceedings or political grandstanding, insisting that the party must prioritise unity and effective administration if it hopes to remain competitive in Abia State.
