Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered intensified security and rescue operations following the abduction of worshippers and other residents from communities in the Dekara District of Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The renewed directive comes as security agencies step up efforts to locate and safely rescue the victims while tracking down those responsible for the attacks and abductions.
IGP Visits Niger State Over Security Situation
The Inspector-General of Police visited Niger State on Saturday to personally assess the security situation and strengthen coordination among security agencies involved in efforts to address the incident.
During a visit to the Niger State Government House in Minna, IGP Disu conveyed the condolences of the Nigeria Police Force to the state government, affected communities and families of those abducted.
He assured the government and residents that the police and other security agencies remain committed to ensuring the safe recovery of all the victims.
Safe Rescue of Victims Remains Priority
According to the IGP, ongoing security operations are focused on rescuing the abducted persons safely and bringing the perpetrators of the crime to justice.
He stressed that security operatives would continue coordinated operations aimed at identifying the locations of the victims, dismantling criminal networks and improving the safety of communities affected by the incident.
Disu also commended the Niger State Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, for the command’s response to the situation and the prompt submission of intelligence and situation reports.
Police Ordered to Sustain Intelligence-Led Operations
Addressing officers and personnel of the Niger State Police Command, the Inspector-General directed them to maintain intelligence-driven and professionally coordinated operations.
He emphasised the need for security personnel to prioritise the safety of the abducted victims and residents of vulnerable communities throughout the rescue efforts.
The IGP further urged officers to strengthen collaboration, intelligence gathering and operational coordination as efforts continue to secure the release of those abducted and prevent further attacks in the affected areas.
