Youth stakeholders from different parts of the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency have expressed support for the return of Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha to the House of Representatives in the 2027 general election, citing their desire for continuity and consolidation of ongoing initiatives.
The youths made their positions known during separate engagements within the constituency, where discussions centred on representation, youth development and the future of the constituency ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to the stakeholders, Aguocha’s current representation has raised expectations among constituents for further development, with calls for existing programmes and projects to be sustained while new areas of need are addressed.
The youth groups noted that the 2027 election would provide an opportunity for constituents to assess the lawmaker’s record, engage with him on pressing issues and make decisions about the renewal of his mandate. Aguocha is the incumbent representative for Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South in the House of Representatives.
The stakeholders also highlighted areas they would like to see receive greater attention, including employment opportunities, education, skills acquisition, infrastructure, community development projects and programmes targeted at young people across the three local government areas.
While expressing their preference for continuity, the youths stressed the importance of constructive engagement between elected representatives and constituents. They called for regular communication and greater opportunities for young people to contribute to discussions about development priorities.
For the groups, consolidation should involve building on initiatives already undertaken, identifying areas where improvements are required and ensuring that the benefits of legislative representation reach more communities across Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South.
Their position comes amid increasing political activity in the constituency ahead of the 2027 general election. In recent months, Aguocha has held engagements with grassroots political stakeholders in Ikwuano as part of efforts to strengthen community and political relationships ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The youth discussions therefore add another dimension to the emerging 2027 conversation in Ikwuano/Umuahia, where issues of representation, accountability, development and continuity are increasingly featuring in engagements among stakeholders.
