The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man identified as Ugochukwu Precious of Umuohia, Ogbor Hill, Aba, in connection with allegations of violent crime, cult-related activities and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The command disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Friday, September 25, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command.
According to the police, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Aba North, arrested the suspect following a complaint received on September 22 concerning an alleged unpaid iPhone 17 Pro Max transaction.
The police said the suspect allegedly obtained the phone in April 2026 under an arrangement to pay upon delivery but failed to complete the payment. The disagreement reportedly escalated, with the suspect allegedly resorting to threats and engaging the services of thugs against the seller.
Following the complaint, RRS operatives commenced an investigation and acted on what the command described as actionable intelligence, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
The police further stated that the suspect allegedly made confessional statements during questioning. In the course of the investigation, operatives reportedly recovered a pump-action shotgun from him on September 23, 2026.
The command said investigations are still ongoing, while efforts are underway to locate and arrest other members of the alleged gang who are currently at large.
The suspect is expected to be charged before a court after the completion of the investigation, according to the police.
The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc(+), mnips, JP, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling violent crime, cultism and the unlawful possession of firearms across the state.
He also urged residents to remain law-abiding and assist security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could help prevent crime and improve public safety.
The police said members of the public should continue to cooperate with security agencies as investigations into the case and efforts to apprehend other suspects continue.
