BREAKING: Tinubu Nominates Abia-Born Ogbugo Ukoha for Another Five Years at NMDPRA

By Mark Chukwu, Umuahia

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Abia-born petroleum industry expert, Mr. Ogbugo Kalu Ukoha, for another five-year term as Executive Director, Distribution Systems, Storage and Retailing Infrastructure at the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

The nomination, which is subject to confirmation by the Nigerian Senate, represents a proposed continuation of Ukoha’s leadership role in one of the country’s strategic petroleum regulatory institutions.

Ukoha hails from Ebem Ohafia in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State. He is the son of the late traditional ruler of Ebem Ohafia, HRH Eze Ukoha Kalu Ukoha, JP, who was widely respected for his traditional leadership and contributions to the community.

In communicating the nomination to the Senate, President Tinubu called for its prompt consideration, highlighting the importance of institutional continuity and strengthening the regulatory and supervisory responsibilities of the NMDPRA.

As Executive Director, Distribution Systems, Storage and Retailing Infrastructure, Ukoha oversees critical aspects of Nigeria’s petroleum supply chain. His portfolio covers petroleum product distribution networks, storage infrastructure and retail facilities, which are essential to ensuring efficient product movement and availability across the country.

His proposed reappointment comes at a significant period for Nigeria’s petroleum industry, which continues to face challenges involving product transportation, distribution efficiency, infrastructure development, safety standards and regulatory compliance.

The NMDPRA plays a central role in regulating midstream and downstream petroleum activities, making the position particularly important to the effective management and development of the country’s petroleum sector.

Ukoha’s nomination has also attracted attention in Ebem Ohafia and across Abia State, given his connection to the community and the significance of having an indigene occupy a strategic position within a major national institution.

For the people of Ebem Ohafia, his continued presence in national public service also brings renewed recognition to the community’s contribution to Nigeria’s development.

If confirmed by the Senate, Ukoha will serve another five-year tenure, during which he is expected to continue overseeing the distribution, storage and retail infrastructure responsibilities assigned to his office.
