Abia Mourns US-Based Nigerian Doctor Who Died During Free Medical Outreach

US-based Nigerian doctor dies during ANPA medical outreach in Abia State, leaving a legacy of compassion and humanitarian service.

Residents of Abia State have been thrown into deep mourning following the sudden passing of US-based Nigerian physician, Dr. Uzoma Nwaubani, who was in the state for a humanitarian medical mission.

Dr. Nwaubani, a dedicated member of the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas, reportedly died after a brief illness while actively participating in the ongoing ANPA Medical Mission, a programme focused on providing free healthcare services to underserved communities across the state.

In an official statement released on Friday, Governor Alex Otti described the incident as both shocking and heartbreaking. He revealed that the late doctor had traveled from the United States with her husband and daughter who is a final-year medical student to contribute her expertise to the wellbeing of people in her home state.

According to the governor, Dr. Nwaubani’s commitment to humanitarian service set her apart as a compassionate and selfless professional. He noted that her decision to return home and offer free medical care reflected a remarkable sense of duty and love for her community.

Reports indicate that she developed a sudden medical emergency during the outreach and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. A joint team of ANPA and local healthcare professionals made extensive efforts to save her life. However, despite their best attempts, she could not be revived.

Governor Otti extended his condolences to her family, the ANPA community, and all those impacted by the loss. He also confirmed that the state government is working closely with her family and ANPA leadership to provide the necessary support during this difficult period.

He further commended the resilience of Dr. Nwaubani’s family and the ANPA team for continuing the medical mission despite the tragic incident, describing their decision as a powerful demonstration of dedication and courage.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery, the governor emphasized that the welfare of both residents and visitors remains a top priority.
