VIDEO: Dangote Pushes for Visa-Free Africa, Proposes New Refinery in Tanzania

Africa’s richest industrialist, Aliko Dangote, has called for the introduction of a visa-free policy across African countries to promote seamless movement of people, goods, and services on the continent.

Speaking at the Africa Finance Corporation Summit in Nairobi, Dangote urged African leaders to remove travel barriers that continue to hinder regional integration and economic growth. Addressing William Ruto and Yoweri Museveni, he emphasized the need for urgent reforms that prioritize Africans.

Dangote pointed out the irony that holders of European passports often find it easier to travel across African countries than Africans themselves. According to him, this imbalance must be corrected to unlock the continent’s full economic potential.

He specifically appealed to President Ruto to rally fellow African leaders toward adopting policies that allow unrestricted movement within the continent. Dangote argued that simplifying travel processes would boost trade, investment, and collaboration among African nations.

Beyond policy advocacy, the billionaire entrepreneur also revealed plans to expand his industrial footprint. He announced a proposal to build a refinery in Tanzania, similar to the massive 650,000 barrels-per-day facility in Lagos. The refinery, if supported by regional leaders, is expected to strengthen energy security and reduce dependence on fuel imports across East Africa.

Dangote assured that with the necessary backing from governments, his group is ready to replicate the success of its Nigerian refinery project in other parts of Africa. The move aligns with broader efforts to industrialize the continent and enhance intra-African trade.
