Reps Pass Bill to Establish Federal Medical Centre in Ikwuano – Aguocha

The House of Representatives has passed a bill seeking to establish a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Ikwuano, Abia State, marking a key legislative advancement in efforts to expand healthcare access.

The bill, titled “A Bill for an Act to Amend the Federal Medical Centres Act and Establish Federal Medical Centre, Ikwuano, Abia State and for Related Matters (HB-1605)”, scaled third reading on Tuesday, April 27, 2026.

Sponsored by Obi Aguocha, the proposed legislation aims to strengthen the healthcare system in Abia State by providing a federal-level medical facility to serve Ikwuano and neighboring communities.

With its passage at the third reading stage, the bill moves closer to becoming law, pending concurrence by the Senate and presidential assent.
