Former Rivers State governor and ex-minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared his intention to clinch the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a gathering of the ADC Progressive Movement, Amaechi projected strong confidence in emerging as the party’s flagbearer. The former minister, who officially joined the ADC in March 2026, said his approach to politics is rooted in discipline and unity, rather than engaging in divisive exchanges.
Addressing ongoing tensions within opposition circles, Amaechi dismissed online confrontations as largely driven by rival support bases of Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi. He noted that while some groups are locked in heated digital battles, his supporters remain focused on constructive engagement.
Amaechi emphasized that his refusal to respond to criticism is a deliberate strategy aimed at fostering reconciliation within the opposition bloc after securing the party’s nomination. According to him, the ultimate goal is to build a united front capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He questioned the electoral strength of competing factions, suggesting that popularity alone may not translate into victory at the polls. Amaechi maintained that his political structure and strategy position him strongly for success in the party’s primaries.
