Labour Party Slams Abia APC Over Alleged Attempts to Drag Alex Otti Into 2027 Politics

The Labour Party in Abia State has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against what it described as repeated attempts to involve Governor Alex Otti in the opposition party’s internal political disputes and anxieties ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement signed by the Abia State Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Iroegbu Emenike, the party reacted to a recent press release issued by the APC through its spokesperson, Mr. Uche Aguoru, concerning the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.

The Labour Party described the APC’s remarks as unnecessary and politically motivated, insisting that Governor Otti remains focused on governance and development rather than political distractions.

According to the statement, the Abia State Government is not concerned about whether Benjamin Kalu intends to contest the governorship election in 2027 or seek a return to the National Assembly.

The party maintained that Governor Otti is currently concentrating on rebuilding infrastructure, improving the state’s economy, restoring confidence in public institutions, and delivering dividends of democracy to the people of Abia State.

The statement further accused the APC of constantly mentioning the governor in political discussions in a bid to remain relevant in the state’s political landscape. The Labour Party argued that Governor Otti’s achievements in office have set a new governance standard in Abia, adding that his growing popularity is based on visible performance and prudent leadership.

The party also dismissed what it called politically manufactured debates and endorsements allegedly designed to attract public attention. It stressed that Governor Otti’s acceptance among residents is driven by hope, development projects, and reforms introduced by his administration.

The Labour Party advised the APC in Abia State to focus on strengthening its internal structure, developing alternative policies, and addressing issues affecting its members instead of dragging the governor into what it termed “political insecurities.”

The statement concluded by noting that the people of Abia State are politically aware and capable of distinguishing between propaganda and measurable performance.
