The Abia State Government has successfully conducted the Computer-Based Test (CBT) for applicants seeking admission into the 2026 Abia State Youth Leadership Academy, marking another milestone in its efforts to develop a new generation of ethical and transformational leaders.
The exercise, held at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) CBT Centre, attracted thousands of young applicants from across the state who competed for a place in the highly anticipated leadership programme.
Speaking while monitoring the exercise, the President of the Abia State Leadership Academy and former Secretary to the State Government, Professor Kenneth Kalu, expressed satisfaction with the smooth and transparent conduct of the examination. He commended the organisers for ensuring a seamless and well-coordinated process, while praising the impressive turnout of candidates.
Professor Kalu noted that the overwhelming response from young people demonstrates their strong desire to acquire ethical leadership values, civic responsibility, and practical life skills that will prepare them for future leadership roles.
He described the Abia State Youth Leadership Academy as a visionary initiative of Governor Alex Otti, designed to nurture responsible, innovative, and service-oriented young leaders capable of driving sustainable development across the state and beyond.
According to him, the academy received more than 7,000 applications for the 2026 intake, but only the best 1,000 candidates will be selected after the completion of the screening and evaluation process.
Professor Kalu encouraged the applicants to remain committed to the principles of integrity, empathy, discipline, and civic responsibility, emphasizing that these qualities are essential for building a peaceful, progressive, and prosperous society.
He further advised the candidates to continue contributing positively to their communities regardless of the outcome of the selection process, stressing that leadership begins with service and responsible citizenship.
Some of the applicants, including Christian Ugochukwu, Amarachi Vincent, Jubilee Francis, and Angel Chikara, commended Governor Alex Otti for introducing the leadership academy. They described the programme as a unique opportunity for young people to develop leadership capacity, broaden their knowledge, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of Abia State.
