BREAKING: Appeal Court Dismisses Abure’s Case, Upholds Lower Court Ruling

In a significant legal development, the Court of Appeal has dismissed an appeal filed by Abure, describing it as lacking merit. The appellate court affirmed the earlier judgment of the Nasarawa High Court, effectively bringing clarity to the disputed matter involving party leadership and internal affairs.

The court did not hold back in its assessment of the lower court proceedings, criticizing the Nasarawa High Court judge who issued an interim order against Nenadi Usman. The appellate court described the action as “reckless,” stressing that the judge acted outside the bounds of jurisdiction.

A key point in the ruling was the court’s position that the constitution of the party’s interim committee remains strictly an internal affair. As such, it falls outside the jurisdiction of the court in the manner it was previously handled. The appellate court further noted that the original suit before the lower court was directed against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and not a matter concerning the internal workings of the political party.

Reaffirming the earlier decision, the Appeal Court concluded that the judgment of the lower court stands. It emphasized that the appeal brought forward failed to present sufficient grounds to overturn the ruling.

In addition, the court imposed a financial penalty, awarding a cost of N10 million against Abure for pursuing the appeal.

This ruling is expected to have implications for internal party disputes and reinforces judicial boundaries in political matters.
