EFCC Clears Pastor Jerry Eze After Six-Month Money Laundering Probe

EFCC clears Pastor Jerry Eze after a six-month probe into alleged money laundering, citing verified charitable sources of foreign funds.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially cleared Jerry Eze following a six-month investigation into alleged money laundering linked to significant foreign inflows into his accounts.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede disclosed the outcome during a business grant event in Abuja, explaining that the probe was initiated after authorities flagged large financial transactions originating from countries such as Colombia and the United States. These inflows initially raised suspicions of possible illicit activity.

According to Olukoyede, the commission conducted a thorough review of the pastor’s financial records and engaged him directly for clarification. The investigation ultimately found that the funds were tied to legitimate charitable activities and humanitarian efforts rather than unlawful dealings.

After reviewing the evidence, the EFCC chairman publicly cleared Pastor Eze, commending his transparency and integrity. He also used the opportunity to contrast the case with ongoing prosecutions involving other religious figures currently in custody over financial misconduct.

Reacting to the development, Pastor Eze expressed deep relief, noting that the period of investigation was emotionally taxing. He said he relied heavily on prayer throughout the process and welcomed the agency’s decision as a vindication of his reputation.

The announcement has sparked mixed reactions online. While many Nigerians praised the EFCC for its openness and due process, others raised concerns about the optics of publicly clearing individuals, questioning whether similar transparency is applied across all cases.

Despite the debate, the EFCC maintains that the investigation followed standard procedures and underscores its commitment to fairness, accountability, and the rule of law.
