Ex-APGA Governorship Candidate Reagan Ufomba Defects to Labour Party

Former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Reagan Ufomba, has officially joined the Labour Party (LP), marking a significant political development in Abia State ahead of future political contests.

Ufomba, who also enjoys influence across various political circles in the state, announced his defection alongside members of his political platform, the Change Abia Organisation. The group, which consists of 197 affiliate organizations spread across Abia State, has now been fully integrated into the Labour Party.

The formal reception took place at the Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Secretariat in Okpuala Ngwa, where Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, welcomed Ufomba and his supporters into the party.

Speaking during the event, Governor Otti described the move as a major boost for the Labour Party and a strong endorsement of his administration’s ongoing reforms and development initiatives across the state. According to the governor, the Labour Party operates on the principles of fairness, inclusiveness, and equal opportunities for all members regardless of when they joined the party.

He assured the new members that there would be no distinction between old and new party faithful, emphasizing that everyone enjoys equal rights and privileges within the party structure.

Governor Otti also commended Ufomba for his commitment to the progress of Abia State and noted that the decision to join the Labour Party reflects growing public confidence in the administration’s performance. He stated that the government remains focused on delivering impactful projects and improving the lives of residents.

During his remarks, the governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to key infrastructure projects, including the proposed airport at Nsulu. He disclosed that plans are advancing steadily and that supporting road networks connecting the airport to major parts of the state would soon be awarded for construction.

Reflecting on the administration’s journey so far, Otti explained that his government initially focused on addressing inherited challenges such as salary arrears, pension obligations, and other outstanding liabilities before embarking on major development projects.

In his acceptance speech, Chief Reagan Ufomba expressed appreciation to Governor Otti, Labour Party leaders, and members for the warm reception. He described his entry into the party as a defining moment in his political career and pledged to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of Abia State.

Ufomba explained that his decision was influenced by the visible achievements of the current administration and the need to align with a political movement focused on accountability, good governance, and the welfare of the people.

He further noted that the Change Abia Organisation was established to promote sustainable development and responsible leadership, adding that its members have unanimously resolved to support the Labour Party’s vision for the state.

Several stakeholders who spoke at the event, including lawmakers, commissioners, and local government officials, welcomed Ufomba’s defection and described it as another indication of the growing popularity of the Labour Party across Abia State.
