The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, the Islamic celebration marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
The announcement means workers across the country will have a public holiday on Tuesday as Muslims and other Nigerians observe the religious occasion.
Eid ul Mawlid is commemorated annually by Muslim communities through prayers, religious gatherings, lectures and other activities centred on the life, teachings and virtues of Prophet Muhammad.
The public holiday is expected to provide Muslim faithful with an opportunity to participate fully in the celebrations and observe the occasion with family and members of their communities.
The Federal Government’s declaration also underscores the recognition of Nigeria’s religious and cultural diversity, while allowing citizens to observe significant religious occasions.
Muslim faithful across the country are expected to use the occasion to reflect on the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, particularly values such as peace, compassion, unity, tolerance and love for humanity.
