FG Releases CONTA Allowance for Non-Academic Staff in Federal Tertiary Institutions

The Federal Government has released the Consolidated Non-Academic Staff Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CONTA) for non-academic employees working in federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education across Nigeria.

The allowance covers the period from January to August 2026, according to the Federal Ministry of Education.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, announced the development in a press release dated October 7, 2026, describing the payment as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to improve workers’ welfare and promote stability in the country’s tertiary education sector.

Alausa said the release of CONTA demonstrates the commitment of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to improving the welfare of personnel while creating a more conducive environment for the delivery of quality education under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Minister noted that the welfare, motivation and dedication of both academic and non-academic workers remain essential to the effective functioning of tertiary institutions and the development of Nigeria’s human capital.

According to him, the payment is also aimed at addressing legitimate welfare concerns, promoting industrial harmony and reducing disruptions that could affect academic activities across the nation’s tertiary education system.

The announcement comes shortly after the commencement of payment of the Consolidated Academic Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CATA) to academic staff on Monday.

The Federal Ministry of Education said the two payments demonstrate the government’s efforts to fulfil its obligations to personnel across the tertiary education sector and strengthen institutions responsible for producing the skilled workforce needed to drive Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

Alausa further assured stakeholders that the Ministry would continue engaging relevant unions, institutional authorities and other stakeholders to resolve outstanding issues and promote mutual understanding within the sector.

He commended academic and non-academic staff, heads of institutions, unions and other stakeholders for their patience, understanding and continued cooperation with the Federal Government.

The Minister also reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to policies and programmes focused on staff welfare, institutional stability, human capital development and improved learning outcomes.

The Federal Ministry of Education assured workers and other stakeholders in the tertiary education sector that the Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, remains committed to addressing legitimate outstanding issues and sustaining reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s education system.
