Gov. Alex Otti Awards Contract for Reconstruction of Historic Okpara Road in Umuahia

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has awarded the contract for the long-awaited reconstruction of Okpara Road in Umuahia, marking a significant step in the state’s ongoing urban renewal and infrastructure development agenda.

Okpara Road, named after the late Dr. Michael Okpara, the first Premier of the former Eastern Region, has reportedly remained in a deteriorated condition for more than six decades. The reconstruction is expected to improve road safety, ease traffic flow, and enhance economic activities within the state capital.

The project is being executed through a collaborative effort between the Abia State Government and Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha, the member representing Umuahia North, Umuahia South, and Ikwuano Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

The partnership reflects a shared commitment to delivering sustainable development projects across the constituency. Beyond the reconstruction of Okpara Road, the collaboration has facilitated various youth empowerment initiatives aimed at creating economic opportunities and improving livelihoods.

In addition, plans are underway for the award of the second phase of the Ohuhu Ring Road reconstruction project. The road is expected to improve transportation, reduce travel time, and enhance connectivity for communities within the Ohuhu clan and neighbouring areas.

Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha has consistently pursued a dual approach to constituency representation by working with both the federal and state governments to attract critical infrastructure and social development projects. This strategy has contributed to the delivery of several impactful initiatives that continue to benefit residents of Umuahia North, Umuahia South, and Ikwuano.

The reconstruction of Okpara Road is expected to preserve the historical significance of one of Umuahia’s landmark roads while supporting Governor Alex Otti’s broader vision of modernising infrastructure and improving the quality of life for Abia residents.
