Gov. Otti Demands Permanent Power as Geometric Restores Electricity in Aba

Gov. Otti Commends Geometric Power for Restoring Electricity in Aba, Demands Gas Diversification and Backup Plans

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has commended the management of Geometric Power for restoring electricity supply to Aba following several days of power outage, while urging the company to strengthen its gas supply network and establish reliable backup arrangements to prevent future disruptions.

Governor Otti made the remarks on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, when he received the management of Geometric Power, led by its Chairman, Prof. Barth Nnaji, at his office.

The Governor acknowledged the difficulties experienced by residents, manufacturers, businesses and other electricity consumers across Aba and surrounding communities during the blackout. He noted that the restoration of stable electricity was particularly important because residents and businesses in the Enyimba City had increasingly become accustomed to improved power supply under his administration.

According to Governor Otti, the public reaction to the recent outage demonstrates how significantly reliable electricity has transformed economic and social activities in Aba.

He expressed appreciation to Geometric Power for resolving the situation, noting that the government became aware of the restoration after several days of efforts to address the challenge.

Governor Otti, however, stressed that the immediate priority should be to ensure that similar prolonged outages do not occur again. He therefore called on Geometric Power to develop multiple sources of gas supply and maintain adequate contingency plans capable of supporting electricity generation whenever one supply channel experiences disruption.

The Governor emphasized that the objective should be to make reliable electricity supply in Aba sustainable rather than merely responding to individual outages after they occur.

“What we need to do now is to ensure that it doesn’t happen again,” Governor Otti said, stressing the need for lasting solutions and stronger operational resilience.

The Abia State Government reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with Geometric Power and other relevant stakeholders to consolidate improvements in electricity supply and create an enabling environment for businesses and industries to thrive.

Reliable electricity remains central to the administration’s broader economic development strategy, particularly its efforts to strengthen Aba as an industrial and commercial hub. Improved power supply is expected to support manufacturers, small and medium-sized businesses, artisans and other enterprises whose operations depend heavily on consistent electricity.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of Geometric Power and members of the Abia State Executive Council, including the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, who participated virtually.
