Labour Party Abia to Hold Simultaneous Primaries Across 184 Wards on May 30

The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party has reaffirmed its readiness to conduct simultaneous primary elections for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly aspirants on Saturday, May 30, 2026, across the 184 wards in the state.

In an official statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Iroegbu Emenike, the party reminded members, stakeholders, aspirants, and the general public that the exercise will take place simultaneously in all 17 Local Government Areas of Abia State as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

According to the statement, the harmonized primary election date follows directives from the national leadership of the Labour Party, which had earlier communicated the adjustment to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in line with nationwide arrangements.

The party urged all members and supporters to actively participate in the democratic process by turning out in large numbers for the primaries. It stressed that the exercise would be conducted in accordance with the Electoral Act, the Labour Party constitution, and established democratic procedures.

The Abia Labour Party leadership further assured aspirants and party faithful of a peaceful, transparent, credible, and inclusive primary election process across the state. It noted that adequate security measures have already been put in place to ensure a smooth and hitch-free exercise in all wards.

The statement also revealed that additional operational guidelines and instructions would be communicated to party leaders and stakeholders at the appropriate levels to guarantee effective coordination during the primaries.

The party appealed to all aspirants, officials, and supporters to remain law-abiding, peaceful, and fully committed to the rules and directives guiding the exercise.

Reaffirming its commitment to unity and progress, the Labour Party said it remains focused on strengthening its political structure in Abia State while positioning itself for victory in the 2027 elections.
