LP Releases List of Cleared Abia Aspirants Ahead of 2027 Polls

Labour Party Clears Abia Senatorial, House of Representatives Aspirants Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Labour Party has officially released the report of its National Screening Committee for aspirants seeking senatorial and House of Representatives tickets in Abia State ahead of the 2027 general elections.


According to the report dated May 23, 2026, the screening exercise was conducted in line with the party’s constitution, electoral guidelines, and democratic procedures guiding the nomination process. The committee stated that all cleared aspirants successfully met the requirements for participation in the forthcoming party primaries.


The report, signed by National Chairman Sen. Nenadi Esther Usman and National Secretary Hon. Iheanacho Obioma, confirmed that prominent political figures across the three senatorial districts and several federal constituencies in Abia State have been screened and cleared.


Among the senatorial aspirants cleared by the party are former National Secretary of the Labour Party, Senator Darlington Nwokocha for Abia Central, David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex for Abia North, and Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe for Abia South.


For the House of Representatives positions, aspirants cleared include Alex Mascot Ikwechegh for Aba North/South, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa for Arochukwu/Ohafia, Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso for Bende, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe for Isiala Ngwa North/South, Hon. Godwin Amobi Ogah for Isuikwuato/Umunneochi, Dr. Chiemela Wambu for Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo, Hon. Obinna Aguocha for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South, and Adinigwe Ugochukwu Nwoke for Ukwa East/West.

The committee further noted that the screening exercise was carried out in substantial compliance with existing legal and party frameworks. It also disclosed that Senator Darlington Nwokocha was granted a waiver of physical screening appearance in recognition of his contributions and service to the party.


Party officials commended all aspirants for their cooperation throughout the process and expressed optimism that the upcoming primary elections would strengthen the party’s preparations for the 2027 polls in Abia State.
