Sir Mascot Uzor Kalu Withdraws from Abia APC Governorship Race, Cites Fairness and Equity

Former Chief of Staff to the Abia State Government, Mascot Uzor Kalu, has officially withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship race in Abia State ahead of the party primaries.

In a press statement released to supporters, party members, and the general public, Kalu disclosed that the decision followed extensive consultations with family members, political associates, friends, and critical stakeholders across the state.

According to him, although the decision was difficult, it was necessary in the interest of fairness, equity, and the unity of the party in Abia State.

One of the key reasons for his withdrawal, he explained, was the emergence of his brother, Orji Uzor Kalu, as the APC senatorial candidate. Mascot Kalu stated that stepping aside would create room for other governorship aspirants within the party to exercise their democratic rights and pursue the ticket.

He further noted that consultations with stakeholders revealed a strong consensus that Abia Central Senatorial District should be allowed to complete its eight-year power rotation arrangement, which it has already begun.

The former governorship aspirant stressed that his decision was guided by patriotism, political maturity, and a desire to sustain peace and inclusiveness within the APC.

Kalu also used the opportunity to appreciate his family, supporters, and campaign team for standing firmly with him throughout the period of his aspiration. He expressed gratitude to his wife, children, mother, and brothers for their encouragement and unwavering support.

Special appreciation was equally extended to members of his campaign organization, including Reverend Chuks Alozie, Samuel Nwachukwu, and Ifeanyi Adijeh, for their commitment and dedication during the political process.

Political observers believe the withdrawal could significantly reshape the dynamics of the APC governorship contest in Abia State as preparations for the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum.

The development has already sparked reactions among party faithful and political stakeholders, many of whom view the move as a strategic sacrifice aimed at preserving internal harmony and strengthening the party ahead of future electoral battles.
