The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Obi Aguocha, has attributed his emergence as the unopposed candidate of the Labour Party for the 2027 general election to what he described as his strong legislative record, effective representation, and close engagement with constituents.
Speaking during an interview on Family Love FM and ABN TV’s Open Parliament programme, Aguocha said the overwhelming support he received during the party’s primary election reflected the confidence party members and constituents have in his performance over the last three years.
According to the lawmaker, more than 77,000 Labour Party members participated in the affirmation process that produced him as the party’s candidate, noting that the figure surpassed the total number of votes he secured during the 2023 general election.
Aguocha stated that his constituents had carefully assessed his contributions in the areas of lawmaking, oversight responsibilities, and constituency representation before endorsing him for another term in office.
He maintained that his unopposed emergence was a clear indication that party members were satisfied with his stewardship.
“If I had not performed well in my legislative duties, representation, and oversight functions, my party would not have returned me unopposed,” Aguocha said.
The federal lawmaker also commended Alex Otti for what he described as visionary leadership in Abia State. He added that the governor’s endorsement further strengthened confidence among party members ahead of the primary election.
Aguocha described the Labour Party primary process as peaceful, transparent, and credible, stressing that it was conducted without the controversies and disputes that have affected some political parties during their candidate selection exercises.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, the lawmaker pledged to justify the renewed confidence placed in him by continuing to champion policies, projects, and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and development of residents across Ikwuano, Umuahia North, and Umuahia South.

He reaffirmed his commitment to delivering quality representation and advancing the interests of his constituents at the National Assembly, promising to build on the achievements recorded during his current tenure.
