Old video of former Senator Smart Adeyemi criticizing insecurity and poverty in Nigeria resurfaces amid current economic and security concerns.
A video from 2021 showing former Nigerian senator Smart Adeyemi passionately addressing the Senate has resurfaced online, sparking fresh conversations about Nigeria’s ongoing economic and security challenges.
The emotional clip, which dates back to April 2021 during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, captured Senator Adeyemi openly criticizing the worsening insecurity, poverty, and food shortages affecting Nigerians at the time.
In the viral footage, the lawmaker warned that members of the ruling APC could no longer remain silent while citizens suffered across the country.
Speaking during the Senate session, Adeyemi lamented the deteriorating security situation and rising hardship, declaring that lawmakers should consider shutting down the National Assembly if they were unable to rescue the nation from crisis.
According to the resurfaced video, the former senator stated:
“Tinubu should know that it has gotten to a time that we that are supporters of the APC can no longer keep quiet. Our security system has collapsed… every part of this country is threatened. We should shut down the National Assembly if we cannot save this country… there’s no food, people are in poverty.”
The clip has gained renewed attention on social media because many Nigerians believe the concerns raised years ago still reflect the country’s present realities under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Rising inflation, increasing food prices, insecurity linked to bandit attacks, and warnings about a potential food crisis have continued to dominate national discussions.
Social media users quickly identified the footage as an old recording after noticing several visual clues, including the use of face masks associated with the COVID-19 period. Despite this, the emotional nature of the senator’s remarks has resonated with many Nigerians who say the country’s economic and security struggles remain unresolved.
