Peter Obi: My Presidency Will Heal Nigeria, Unite the Nation and Transform the North

Former Labour Party presidential candidate and NDC Presidential Candidate for 2027 general election, Peter Obi, has said that his emergence as Nigeria’s president would represent a significant step towards national healing, unity, and inclusive development.

Speaking during an interview on national issues, Obi responded to a question about whether Nigeria had moved beyond the divisions created by the Civil War and if the country was ready to elect an Igbo president.

According to him, electing a president based on competence rather than ethnicity would strengthen national unity and promote reconciliation among Nigerians.

“The foundation of healing is inclusion. Peter Obi’s presidency will commence the healing and unity required to save lives and build a better Nigeria,” he said.

Obi stressed that his vision for Nigeria is built on fairness, good governance, and equal opportunities for every region, regardless of ethnic or religious differences.

Addressing concerns about Northern Nigeria, the former Anambra State governor expressed confidence in his ability to drive meaningful development across the region. He stated that he understands the challenges facing the North and possesses the leadership capacity to work with stakeholders to bring lasting solutions.

“I will change the North. I have an idea of what is happening in the North, and nobody can drive that process today in Nigeria that I have seen in politics better than me. I will work with them,” Obi stated.

He also highlighted his longstanding commitment to religious tolerance and inclusiveness, noting that his leadership has always embraced people of different faiths.

Obi revealed that his Assistant Director of Campaign (ADC) is from Kaduna State and is a Muslim, describing the appointment as a reflection of his belief in national unity rather than religious or ethnic considerations.

Recalling his tenure as Governor of Anambra State, he said his administration sponsored Christian pilgrims to the Holy Land and Muslim pilgrims to Hajj. He further disclosed that he currently supports four Almajiri schools, demonstrating his continued commitment to education and the welfare of children across religious and regional lines.
