The leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Elijah Ayodele, has stirred fresh controversy after claiming he holds the “key” to the political future of Bayo Adelabu in the 2027 Oyo State governorship race.
Speaking in a video message during a recent church service, Ayodele warned that securing the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) alone would not guarantee victory for Adelabu. According to the cleric, spiritual endorsement remains a decisive factor in determining electoral success.
Ayodele’s remarks appear to revive an earlier dispute between the two figures. In the past, Adelabu reportedly accused the prophet of requesting ₦150 million in exchange for spiritual support an allegation that sparked widespread debate.
Adelabu, a former Minister of Power, formally stepped down from his position on April 22, 2026, to focus on his gubernatorial ambition in Oyo State.
His bid is expected to face stiff competition from notable political figures, including Sharafadeen Alli and the incumbent governor, Seyi Makinde.
Despite Ayodele’s bold assertions, reactions across social media platforms suggest a high level of skepticism. Many Nigerians have dismissed his claims, questioning the influence of prophetic declarations in the country’s political landscape.
