Tinubu Appoints New Special Adviser on Homeland Security

Tinubu appoints retired Major General Adeyinka Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security to strengthen Nigeria’s internal security framework.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa (Rtd) as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, in a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s internal security coordination and response framework.

The appointment, announced through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), is part of ongoing efforts by the Tinubu administration to reinforce national security architecture and improve collaboration among security and intelligence agencies across the country.

According to the official statement, the new role is expected to enhance strategic planning, intelligence sharing, and operational synergy in addressing rising security concerns, including insurgency, banditry, and other forms of internal threats.

Major General Fadewa, who retired from the Nigerian Army after decades of service, is widely regarded for his extensive background in military intelligence and security coordination. During his career, he served in key operational and strategic capacities, including as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021.

In that role, he contributed to the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre, a multi-agency platform designed to improve coordination among Nigeria’s security institutions, including the Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Department of State Services.

Following his retirement from active military service, Fadewa continued his engagement in security affairs as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja, where he focused on defence reform, security strategy, and civil-military relations.

The creation of the Special Adviser on Homeland Security position underscores the federal government’s renewed focus on strengthening internal security management through intelligence-led coordination and inter-agency collaboration.
