In a significant shake-up within the federal cabinet, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has relieved the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, of his duties.
The President has simultaneously nominated Muttaqha Rabe Darma, a PhD holder, as the new minister-designate to oversee the country’s housing and urban development sector. The decision marks a notable change in leadership within a ministry considered critical to addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit and urban planning challenges.

While official reasons for Dangiwa’s removal have not been publicly disclosed, the development comes amid ongoing efforts by the Tinubu administration to reposition key sectors of the economy and improve service delivery. Observers say the move could signal a broader strategy aimed at accelerating reforms and injecting fresh expertise into the ministry.

Darma’s nomination is expected to be forwarded to the National Assembly for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional provisions. If confirmed, he will assume responsibility for driving policies focused on affordable housing, urban infrastructure, and sustainable city development.
