BREAKING: Tinubu Replaces Wale Edun With Taiwo Oyedele as Finance Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has carried out a minor cabinet reshuffle, removing Wale Edun as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy and appointing Taiwo Oyedele as his successor.

The decision was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, confirming that the president approved changes in the Federal Executive Council as part of efforts to strengthen governance and improve economic management.

According to a memo signed by George Akume, Edun is expected to hand over to Oyedele, who will now oversee the nation’s finance portfolio and coordinate economic policy for the administration.

The reshuffle also affected the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, where Ahmed Musa Dangiwa was directed to leave office. In his place, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the ministry.

The presidency directed that all handover processes between outgoing and incoming officials must be concluded before the close of business on April 23, 2026.

Explaining the changes, Akume said the president’s decision was intended to improve cohesion within the cabinet and ensure more effective delivery of the administration’s economic agenda to Nigerians.

He noted that the reshuffle was carried out in line with the constitutional powers granted to the president under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
