Tony Elumelu Named Next Chairman of Seplat Energy, Effective January 2027

Leading Nigerian energy company Seplat Energy has announced the appointment of renowned entrepreneur and investor Tony Elumelu as its next Chairman, with the leadership transition scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027.

The appointment marks a significant milestone in the company’s corporate governance and long-term growth strategy as it continues to strengthen its position in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

According to the company’s announcement, Elumelu will succeed current Chairman Udoma Udo Udoma, who is expected to retire from the Board on December 31, 2026, after overseeing a period of major expansion and strategic transformation. During his tenure, Seplat Energy completed key milestones, including the integration of major energy assets and the development of its long-term business roadmap.

Elumelu, one of Africa’s most influential business leaders, joined the Seplat Energy Board as a Non-Executive Director in January 2026 following the acquisition of a significant equity stake in the company by Heirs Holdings and Heirs Energies. Since then, he has played an active role in supporting the company’s strategic direction and governance framework.

As Founder and Chairman of Heirs Holdings, Elumelu has built a reputation as a leading advocate for private-sector-led development across Africa. His business interests span energy, banking, hospitality, healthcare, technology, and power generation, making him one of the continent’s most recognized investors.

Industry analysts believe his elevation to Chairman could further strengthen investor confidence in Seplat Energy as the company pursues ambitious growth targets and expands its role in Nigeria’s energy transition agenda.

The appointment comes at a time when Seplat Energy is positioning itself for the next phase of expansion, with a focus on operational efficiency, sustainable growth, and long-term value creation for shareholders.
