The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has announced the expulsion of 11 officers and members while suspending 14 others over alleged disobedience to resolutions and decisions made by its National Executive Council (NEC).
The disciplinary action was reportedly taken following internal disagreements and alleged violations of the union’s constitutional procedures and directives. According to the leadership of the congress, the affected individuals were sanctioned for actions considered contrary to the collective decisions of the union’s highest executive body.
The TUC stated that the move was necessary to maintain discipline, unity, and respect for the
organization’s internal governance structure. The congress emphasized that all members and officers are expected to comply with resolutions reached by the NEC in order to protect the integrity and stability of the labour movement.
Although details surrounding the alleged acts of disobedience were not fully disclosed, sources within the union indicated that the matter had generated tension among some factions of the organization in recent weeks.
Labour analysts believe the decision could have implications for internal relations within the congress, especially as labour unions continue to play key roles in national conversations surrounding workers’ welfare, economic reforms, and government policies.
