The Nigeria Immigration Service has officially implemented a 30-day visa-free entry policy for citizens of Rwanda, marking a significant step toward strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between both African nations.
The new policy takes immediate effect and follows an announcement made by Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the Africa CEO Forum held in Kigali, Rwanda.
The decision is seen as a reciprocal move in response to Rwanda’s longstanding visa-free entry arrangement for Nigerian citizens visiting the country for up to 30 days.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Service Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Akinsola Akinlabi, the agency confirmed that all operational procedures and implementation measures have been finalized across the country’s borders and entry points.
According to the statement, the policy allows Rwandan nationals to enter Nigeria without obtaining a visa in advance, provided their visit does not exceed 30 days. The visa exemption covers lawful activities such as tourism, business meetings, official assignments, and other approved engagements.
The immigration agency further explained that visitors intending to remain in Nigeria beyond the approved 30-day period must apply for the appropriate visa through any Nigerian Embassy or High Commission abroad. Applications can also be processed through Nigeria’s electronic visa platform.
The NIS noted that all international entry points, including airports, seaports, and land borders, have been directed to begin immediate enforcement of the presidential directive.
Observers believe the development could further boost trade, tourism, investment opportunities, and regional integration between Nigeria and Rwanda while strengthening diplomatic ties across Africa.
