Seriake Dickson says the NDC will not serve as a platform for any individual’s 2027 presidential ambition amid growing opposition realignments.
The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has moved to calm growing concerns over possible internal power tussles within the party ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Tuesday, Dickson stated clearly that the rapidly growing opposition platform would not be transformed into a “special-purpose vehicle” designed solely to advance the presidential ambition of any single politician.
The former Bayelsa State governor stressed that the NDC was founded on the principles of national unity, democratic inclusion, and credible leadership, rather than personal political interests. According to him, the party’s leadership remains committed to building a strong political institution that represents the aspirations of Nigerians across all regions and backgrounds.
Dickson’s comments come amid increasing political realignments and speculations surrounding possible alliances and presidential hopefuls ahead of the 2027 elections. The NDC has recently attracted attention from several opposition figures and political stakeholders seeking an alternative platform capable of challenging the ruling establishment.
He warned party members and supporters against actions capable of creating division or undermining the integrity of the movement. Dickson emphasized that the NDC must remain focused on national development, good governance, economic reforms, and the welfare of ordinary Nigerians rather than becoming a tool for individual political ambitions.
The senator also called for unity among party faithful, urging leaders at all levels to place the collective interest of the nation above personal gains. He maintained that the success of the NDC would depend on transparency, internal democracy, and fairness in handling party affairs ahead of future elections.
