Alleged N100bn Constituency Project Fund: I Will Not Trade Words With an EFCC Candidate – Aguocha Blasts Chinedum Orji
Fresh political tensions have emerged in Abia State following allegations that the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency, Obi Aguocha, received N100 billion for constituency projects.
The claim, reportedly linked to the camp of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Chinedum Orji, has been strongly rejected by Aguocha’s media team, which described the allegation as false, misleading, and politically motivated.
In a statement signed by the Ogwumabiri Media Team, representatives of the federal lawmaker accused Orji and his supporters of engaging in a campaign of misinformation aimed at discrediting Aguocha ahead of political contests in the constituency.
The statement criticized the former Speaker, alleging that he lacked the moral standing to accuse others of financial misconduct. According to the media team, the allegation that Aguocha received N100 billion for constituency projects was fabricated to mislead residents of Ikwuano and Umuahia and create unnecessary political tension.
The team further stated that Aguocha had deliberately chosen to focus on issue-based politics and developmental discourse rather than personal attacks. However, it argued that repeated accusations and provocations from Orji’s camp made it necessary to respond publicly.
According to the statement, Aguocha remains committed to presenting his legislative achievements and constituency interventions to voters, while challenging political opponents to do the same. The media team maintained that electoral campaigns should be centered on performance, representation, and the delivery of democratic dividends rather than what it described as unfounded allegations.
The statement also claimed that those making the allegations had become disconnected from the realities facing ordinary citizens, insisting that the N100 billion figure was unrealistic and intended solely to attract public attention.
Reaffirming its support for the lawmaker, the media team said it was prepared to counter what it termed false narratives and defend Aguocha’s record whenever necessary. It urged residents of Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency to disregard the allegations and instead assess elected officials based on their contributions to governance, legislation, and constituency development.
The group further disclosed that details of projects and initiatives undertaken by Aguocha would be made public in the coming days, expressing confidence that such disclosures would address concerns raised by critics and demonstrate the lawmaker’s commitment to the constituency.
