A court in Borno State has sentenced a 55-year-old farmer, Ali Mustapha, to 15 years imprisonment without the option of a fine for concealing information related to the activities of the Boko Haram insurgent group.
According to reports, Mustapha, a resident of Katara village in Borno State, was found guilty of withholding critical information concerning the operations of the terrorist group despite being aware of their activities within his community.
The judgment highlights the Nigerian government’s continued efforts to strengthen counter-terrorism measures and ensure that individuals who aid, support, or fail to report terrorist activities are held accountable under the law.
Security experts have repeatedly emphasized that timely intelligence from residents is vital in combating insurgency, especially in the North-East region, which has experienced years of attacks linked to Boko Haram.
Authorities have consistently urged citizens to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could help prevent attacks, protect communities, and save lives.
The conviction serves as a warning that concealing information capable of assisting terrorist organizations is a serious offence that attracts severe penalties under Nigerian law.
Borno State remains one of the areas most affected by insurgency, and government agencies continue to intensify efforts to restore peace, improve security, and dismantle terrorist networks operating within the region.
Officials have reiterated the importance of community participation in intelligence gathering, stressing that public cooperation remains a critical component in the fight against terrorism across Nigeria.
