2027: Tinubu Has No Real Opposition, Nigeria Must Move Forward — Orji Uzor Kalu
Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has expressed strong confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s chances of securing victory in the 2027 presidential election, arguing that the opposition lacks the unity and political strength needed to mount a serious challenge.
Speaking on the nation’s political landscape, Kalu maintained that Nigeria is on a path of progress under the current administration and insisted that the country should continue moving forward rather than returning to past political divisions.
According to the lawmaker, President Tinubu currently faces no formidable nationwide opposition, describing opposition political parties as fragmented and weakened by internal disagreements and leadership crises.
“We are not going back; we’re moving forward. We are going to win the election competitively. President Tinubu has no competition. The opposition is in tatters,” Kalu declared.
The senator also cautioned against relying on regional politics to determine the outcome of a national election. He stressed that the presidency is decided through broad-based support across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones and cannot be won by depending on votes from a single region.
“You don’t use only the South East to challenge the President of Nigeria. Let us not throw away our votes,” he said.
Kalu’s remarks come amid increasing political realignments and consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political parties and influential stakeholders positioning themselves for what is expected to be another fiercely contested electoral cycle.
The former governor argued that electoral success in Nigeria requires extensive national acceptance, strategic alliances, and grassroots mobilization across diverse regions rather than a narrow regional approach. He maintained that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) remains well-positioned to retain power if it continues to consolidate its support base nationwide.
His comments have already generated reactions across the political spectrum, with supporters viewing them as a vote of confidence in President Tinubu’s administration, while critics insist that the opposition still has sufficient time to reorganize ahead of the next general election.
As political activities gradually intensify, Kalu’s statement is expected to fuel further debate over the prospects of the APC, the readiness of opposition parties, and the direction of Nigeria’s democratic journey in the lead-up to the 2027 presidential election.
