A tragic incident has thrown residents of Umuimo in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State into mourning following the death of a family of five under circumstances that are still being investigated by the police.
According to information available, the bodies of the deceased have been evacuated and deposited at a mortuary, while the Nigeria Police have launched an investigation to determine the actual cause of the tragedy.
Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that investigators carried out a thorough search of the family’s residence. During the inspection, they reportedly found leftover food stored in a cooler, pieces of meat, and some uncooked groundnuts inside the house. These items are expected to form part of the ongoing investigation.
It was also gathered that the family’s electricity generator was found outside the building, suggesting that it may have been in use during the night before the incident occurred.
Residents in the area alleged that the victims may have died from generator fumes, a form of carbon monoxide poisoning often linked to improper generator use. However, this claim has not been confirmed by the authorities.

Community members also revealed that the deceased woman was heavily pregnant, making the incident even more heartbreaking.
The Abia State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement or release the outcome of its investigation. Authorities are expected to determine the exact cause of death after completing forensic examinations and other necessary procedures.
