A proposed partnership between the Abia State Government and Egyptian pharmaceutical company Utopia could mark a major milestone in the state’s industrial and healthcare development.
Governor Alex Otti announced that he recently hosted a delegation from Utopia, an Egyptian pharmaceutical company, led by Dr. Kamel Mohamed and facilitated by Eze Apostle Gift Chibuzor Chinyere. During the meeting, the company presented its proposal to establish a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Abia State.
According to Governor Otti, the proposed investment extends beyond the distribution of medicines. He explained that the project is expected to focus on local drug production, create employment opportunities, promote technology transfer, strengthen the healthcare value chain, and contribute significantly to the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment for investors. He disclosed that the Abia State Government is prepared to provide suitable land for the project and encouraged the investors to consider the Ukwa or Osisioma axis, where reliable electricity from Geometric Power provides an added advantage for industrial operations.
Governor Otti noted that the proposed manufacturing facility has the potential to position Abia as a leading pharmaceutical production and innovation hub in Nigeria and the wider West African region. He assured the delegation that his administration would provide the necessary support to ensure the successful establishment and operation of the factory.
