United States President Donald Trump has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his decisive leadership in tackling terrorism and strengthening Nigeria’s security, reaffirming America’s commitment to supporting the country’s fight against violent extremism.
According to a statement released by the Nigerian Presidency, President Trump conveyed his commendation in a formal letter dated July 6, 2026, where he acknowledged Tinubu’s efforts to address insecurity, particularly attacks affecting Christian communities across Nigeria.
The details of the correspondence were made public by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
In the letter, Trump expressed appreciation for Tinubu’s leadership and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between both nations.
“It is a true honour to stand with you in the fight against these terrorists and to make the Federal Republic of Nigeria stronger and more prosperous,” Trump wrote.
The U.S. President described the relationship between Nigeria and the United States as increasingly important at a time when security challenges continue to spread across West Africa and other parts of the world.
He noted that both countries share a common objective of confronting terrorism in all its forms and highlighted the U.S.-Nigeria 2026 Defence Cooperation Roadmap as a key framework for enhancing security cooperation.
Trump also revealed that the United States had deployed its Special Operations Forces to support the Nigerian Armed Forces through specialized training, intelligence sharing, and capacity building.
According to him, the initiative is aimed at equipping Nigerian security personnel with the skills, tools, and intelligence required to protect the country, safeguard citizens, and strengthen national security, particularly for vulnerable communities affected by terrorist attacks.

The American President further expressed optimism about sustained cooperation with President Tinubu, saying he looks forward to continued discussions and deeper collaboration throughout his presidency.
