The Ohuhu Council of Traditional Rulers in Umuahia, Abia State, has announced the 2026 Iwaji Ohuhu Festival, an annual cultural celebration expected to bring together traditional rulers, community leaders, residents and guests in a colourful display of Ohuhu’s rich cultural heritage.
The festival, organised under the auspices of the Ohuhu traditional institution and community, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
According to the event announcement, the celebration will commence at 10:00 a.m. at the Ofeme Health Centre Ground in Umuezike Ofeme, Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.
A major highlight of this year’s celebration is the planned reception for Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, who is being welcomed by the Ohuhu community as a special guest at the festival.
The event is expected to provide an opportunity for members of the Ohuhu community and their guests to celebrate their cultural identity, traditions and communal bonds while showcasing aspects of the community’s heritage.
The announcement identifies His Excellency Ambassador Empire Kanu, Ikoro Ohuhu Chairman, and His Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, Ikoro Ohuhu Co-Chairman, among the traditional and community figures associated with the event.
The 2026 Iwaji Ohuhu Festival is also expected to attract indigenes and visitors from within and outside Abia State, further promoting cultural unity and community participation.
Beyond the festivities, the annual celebration provides an avenue for the Ohuhu people to preserve and promote their traditional values while strengthening relationships among different communities and generations.
With Governor Alex Otti expected to be welcomed at the event, the 2026 edition is set to be an important gathering for Ohuhu, as traditional institutions, community stakeholders and residents come together to celebrate their shared heritage.
