EFCC Arraigns Idris Gana Mohammed Over Alleged N6.85m Toyota Camry Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Idris Gana Mohammed before the Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja, over an alleged N6.85 million fraud connected to the purchase of a Toyota Camry.

Mohammed was brought before Justice A.M. Abdullahi on a one-count charge bordering on criminal misappropriation and obtaining money by false pretence.

According to the EFCC, the alleged offence occurred between June 10 and 13, 2026, when Mohammed reportedly received N6.85 million from Ampatech Nigeria Limited for the purchase of a black Toyota Camry.

The anti-graft agency alleged that instead of using the money for its stated purpose, Mohammed dishonestly converted the funds to his personal use. The EFCC said the case followed a petition alleging that the defendant failed to deliver the vehicle after receiving payment and also did not refund the money.

Mohammed pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him in court.

During the proceedings, EFCC counsel, G.G. Gajere, urged the court to allow the prosecution to proceed with the trial. Defence counsel, Ibrahim Jibril, however, informed the court that he had filed a bail application and served the prosecution with the necessary documents.

After hearing from both sides, Justice Abdullahi adjourned the matter until September 24, 2026, for the commencement of trial.

The court also ordered that Mohammed be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.

The allegations against Mohammed remain subject to determination by the court, as the defendant has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
