A Sepehran Airlines Boeing 737 experienced severe vibrations shortly after departing Mashhad for Kermanshah, Iran, forcing the crew to abort the flight and return to Mashhad Airport.
The incident involving Flight IS4358 occurred on September 15, 2026, after a problem developed with one of the aircraft’s landing-gear tires during takeoff. While early reports described the incident as a tire burst, Iranian airport officials later said that part of the tire tread had separated as the aircraft left the runway.
The technical problem was followed by intense shaking that reportedly affected the aircraft’s cabin. Dramatic footage recorded by passengers shows people holding onto seats and overhead components as ceiling panels and other interior fittings became loose.
Passengers could be heard screaming and praying as the aircraft experienced the violent vibrations. Parts of the cabin ceiling and overhead compartments reportedly became dislodged, creating a frightening scene inside the Boeing 737.
The flight crew responded by turning the aircraft back toward Mashhad. Reports said the pilot declared an emergency and safely returned to the airport, where passengers and crew were able to leave the aircraft without reported injuries.
The incident prompted an investigation into the aircraft’s technical failure. Reports also indicated that the affected runway at Mashhad Airport was temporarily closed as authorities assessed the situation.
The incident has also drawn attention to the age of some aircraft operated by Iranian airlines. The Boeing 737 involved has been described in reports as being around three decades old, while Iran’s aviation sector has faced significant restrictions on acquiring newer aircraft and aviation parts because of international sanctions.
Despite the frightening scenes captured on video, the most important outcome was that the aircraft returned safely and no injuries were reported among those onboard.

The incident serves as another reminder of the importance of aircraft maintenance, effective emergency procedures and rapid crew response when technical problems occur during takeoff or flight.
