“Face Your EFCC Cases” Obi Aguocha Responds to Chinedum Orji’s “Sue Me” Challenge

The political disagreement between the Member representing Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha, and former Abia State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon. Chinedum Orji, has intensified following Aguocha’s response to Orji’s reported challenge to sue him alongside former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Charles Ogbonna.

In his response, Aguocha referenced two court case numbers allegedly connected to proceedings involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), while raising questions about accountability, the management of public resources and the welfare of Abia State workers and pensioners.

Aguocha cited Criminal Case No. HU/69C/2024 and Federal High Court Case No. FHC/ABJ/CS/03/V/2025, directing attention to the matters as part of his response to Orji’s challenge.

In a strongly worded statement, the federal lawmaker described Orji as an “EFCC candidate” and alleged that billions of naira in public funds had been stolen and concealed in multiple private accounts allegedly linked to the former Speaker.

He further argued that the reported financial allegations should not be divorced from the difficulties faced by Abia State workers and pensioners, who have historically raised concerns about unpaid entitlements and economic hardship.

“While hardworking Abia State pensioners and workers were dying and going hungry, we will not forget,” Aguocha stated, emphasising the importance of public accountability and the need for justice in matters involving alleged financial misconduct.

The lawmaker also expressed confidence that the judicial process would ultimately determine the outcome of the issues he raised.

“The noose of justice is tightening around your neck and must surely prevail,” he declared.

Aguocha’s response appeared to shift the focus of the exchange from Orji’s reported legal challenge to the outstanding questions surrounding the referenced court cases and the broader issue of accountability in public office.

By highlighting the case numbers, Aguocha challenged Orji to address the matters through the appropriate legal channels rather than allow the political disagreement to overshadow questions concerning the management of public resources.

The exchange adds another dimension to the political tensions surrounding prominent figures in Abia State, where public scrutiny of governance, financial accountability and the welfare of workers and pensioners remains an important issue.

However, the allegations contained in Aguocha’s statement remain allegations and should not be treated as established facts or proof of guilt. The precise nature, status and outcome of the referenced proceedings would need to be confirmed through official court records or statements from the EFCC.

For now, Aguocha’s response has reinforced his call for accountability while keeping the disagreement with Orji in the public spotlight.
