Federal Government Approves N438 Billion Road Projects, Trailer Park and Highway Concessions Nationwide
The Federal Government has approved a series of major road construction, rehabilitation and public-private partnership projects estimated at hundreds of billions of naira, as part of ongoing efforts to improve Nigeria’s transport infrastructure and strengthen economic connectivity across the country.
The approvals, which cover key federal highways and strategic transport facilities in several states, include road reconstruction, rehabilitation, highway maintenance and the development of trailer parks through concession arrangements.
The Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, disclosed the development while briefing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday. The meeting was presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Among the projects approved is the reconstruction of the Ado-Ekiti–Iyin–Aramoko–Itawure–Osun border road in Ekiti State, with an estimated contract value of N159.83 billion. The project was awarded to CBC Global Civil and Building Construction Nigeria Ltd.
The council also approved a N54.12 billion variation order for the rehabilitation of the Abeokuta–Iboro–Ilaro Road in Ogun State, aimed at improving road connectivity and facilitating movement within the state and neighbouring areas.
In Rivers State, the Federal Government approved N74.51 billion for the reconstruction of the 15-kilometre Port Harcourt–Eleme Junction–Onne Port Junction section of the East-West Road. RCC Nigeria Ltd. was awarded the contract, with a nine-month completion period.
Another major approval is the Phase II rehabilitation of the Ado-Ekiti–Afe Babalola University Road in Ekiti State, which forms part of the Ado–Ijan–Iluomobi–Imesi–Ondo border route. The project has an estimated value of N54.52 billion.
The council further approved N94.24 billion for the construction of the Ilara–Iselu Road, Phases II to V, in Ogun State. The contract was awarded to JRB Construction Company Ltd., with an expected completion period of 24 months.
Beyond conventional road construction and rehabilitation, the Federal Government also approved several highway and trailer park concessions under public-private partnership arrangements.
One of the concessions covers the development of the 7.9-kilometre Dikko–Maje section of the Suleja–Minna Road in Niger State. The project is valued at N56.75 billion and will be operated under a 40-year concession by Graciatech Engineering Nigeria Ltd.
The Lagos–Ibadan Expressway is also included in the new concession approvals. The operation and maintenance of the major highway has been approved at an estimated N96.43 billion under a 25-year concession arrangement involving LIB Concession Group.
In Abia State, the Federal Government approved the development of a greenfield trailer park at Aro-Ngwa at an estimated cost of N19.70 billion. Greg Jane International Ltd. will undertake the project under a 50-year concession.
The latest approvals underline the administration’s focus on expanding Nigeria’s road infrastructure, improving the movement of people and goods, supporting major commercial corridors and attracting private-sector investment into transportation infrastructure.
The rehabilitation of critical highways and development of dedicated trailer facilities could also help improve logistics efficiency, reduce pressure on major roads and enhance the connection between industrial, commercial and port-related centres.
