The Abia State Government has firmly denied any involvement in the suspension of Professor Nnamdi Nwaeze, an Economics professor at Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU).
Officials emphasized that the university is fully equipped to manage its own internal disciplinary issues without any interference from the state government.
This clarification came from Ferdinand Ekeoma, the Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Media and Publicity, who addressed reporters during a post-State Executive Council briefing at the Government House in Umuahia.
Ekeoma reiterated the government’s commitment to due process, stating that it respects the university’s autonomy in handling its internal matters.
He pointed out that ABSU has established protocols for investigating allegations against staff members and taking necessary disciplinary actions when warranted.
According to him, there have been instances in the past where lecturers and other university personnel have faced investigations, suspensions, sanctions, or expulsions through the institution’s own disciplinary channels.
Ekeoma dismissed any claims that Governor Alex Otti had instructed the university to suspend Professor Nwaeze, emphasizing that the governor does not meddle in such internal affairs.
He also noted that anyone trying to link the lecturer’s suspension to the state government might not fully grasp the administration’s approach to governance and institutional processes.
In other news, the Abia State Government has approved a structured plan to address the outstanding gratuity owed to verified pensioners who retired from state and local government services between 2001 and 2010.
