Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has applauded Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for approving the Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) for two newly established federal tertiary institutions in Bende Local Government Area.
The institutions are the Federal College of Education, Bende, and the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Item, Bende.
Kalu described the governor’s swift approval as a major step towards the speedy commencement of academic and administrative activities at both institutions. According to him, the development demonstrates a strong commitment to advancing education, healthcare, and economic growth in Abia State.
The Deputy Speaker recalled that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed into law the bills establishing the two institutions in June 2025. The bills were sponsored by Kalu as part of efforts to expand access to higher education and specialised medical training in the South-East.
He expressed confidence that the issuance of the Certificates of Occupancy would facilitate infrastructure development, attract federal investments, create employment opportunities, and stimulate economic activities in Bende and neighbouring communities.
Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, also praised the growing collaboration between his office and the Abia State Government, describing it as a productive partnership that is delivering meaningful development for the people.
He reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with Governor Otti’s administration to attract more federal projects and investments that will improve infrastructure, education, healthcare, and overall socio-economic development across Abia State.
“I commend His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, for this swift action. It is a synergy that works for the development of Abia State and our people in general,” Kalu stated.
