A wave of political realignments swept through Nigeria’s House of Representatives on Tuesday as eight lawmakers officially announced their defection to different political parties, signaling early positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defections, which were disclosed during plenary in the Green Chamber, cut across multiple states and parties, highlighting shifting loyalties within the country’s political landscape.
Among those who switched allegiance, Abubakar Abdul Buba from Niger State moved from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Similarly, Ibrahim Mohammed Bunza also defected from the PDP to the APC.
In Kebbi State, Sani Yakubu Noma left the PDP for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while in Osun State, both Mudashiru Alani and Olusoji Adetunji exited the PDP to join the Accord Party.
From Lagos State, Thaddeus Attah switched from the Labour Party (LP) to the ADC, adding to the growing list of lawmakers aligning with alternative platforms.
Meanwhile, Bashir Usman Zubairu defected from the APC to the ADC, and David Abel Fouh moved in the opposite direction, leaving the APC to rejoin the PDP.

The development reflects mounting political recalculations as lawmakers and stakeholders begin strategizing for party primaries and alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
