BREAKING: FG Declares Five-Day National Learning Assessment Week Across Nigeria

Federal Government Declares June 29–July 3, 2026 as National Learning Assessment Week Across Nigeria

The Federal Government has officially declared Monday, June 29, to Friday, July 3, 2026, as National Learning Assessment (NLA) Week, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s education sector.

The announcement comes as the country prepares to conduct its first-ever National Learning Assessment across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The exercise is aimed at evaluating the learning outcomes of students nationwide and generating reliable data that will help improve the quality of education.

According to government officials, the National Learning Assessment is designed to measure students’ competencies in key subject areas, identify learning gaps, and provide evidence-based insights that will guide educational reforms and policy decisions.

The assessment is expected to involve thousands of schools and learners across the country, making it one of the largest education evaluation exercises ever undertaken in Nigeria.

Education stakeholders have described the initiative as a critical step toward strengthening accountability within the education system and ensuring that teaching methods align with national and global learning standards.

The Federal Government noted that the findings from the assessment will help policymakers, school administrators, and teachers develop targeted interventions to address challenges affecting students’ academic performance.

The National Learning Assessment is also expected to support Nigeria’s broader efforts to improve foundational literacy, numeracy, and overall educational outcomes, particularly in line with international best practices and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Authorities have urged state governments, school administrators, teachers, parents, and relevant stakeholders to cooperate fully throughout the assessment period to ensure the successful implementation of the nationwide exercise.

Experts believe that the data generated from the assessment will provide a clearer picture of the strengths and weaknesses within Nigeria’s education system and serve as a roadmap for future investments in human capital development.
