The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit details of their candidates for the 2027 Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.
The electoral commission announced the extension in a statement issued on Saturday, August 8, 2026, by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee.
According to the commission, political parties now have until Tuesday, August 11, 2026, to upload the required particulars of their candidates through the designated online portal.
The original deadline was Saturday, August 8, but INEC said it approved the extension following requests from several political parties seeking additional time to complete the process.
The commission explained that the extension was granted to allow parties to meet the requirements under the revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election.
Meanwhile, INEC has also announced a deadline for voters who applied to replace lost, damaged or defaced Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the Osun State Governorship Election.
Voters affected by such cases have until midnight on Sunday, August 9, 2026, to print downloadable copies of their replacement PVCs.
INEC said the deadline would enable it to collate the number of downloaded replacement cards and establish the final statistics of PVCs collected before the August 15 Osun governorship election.
The commission recalled that PVC collection in Osun State initially began at the Registration Area level on July 22 and was scheduled to end on July 28. However, the exercise was extended to July 31 following complaints from voters over overcrowding and challenges experienced at some collection centres.
The process subsequently moved to the Local Government Area level, where collection continued from August 1 to August 7.
INEC also disclosed that replacement downloadable PVCs had been provided for voters in Odo-Otin and Ife Central Local Government Areas after hoodlums reportedly invaded two collection centres and carted away some voters’ cards.
The commission assured affected voters that the stolen PVCs cannot be used to cast ballots, while urging eligible voters to obtain their replacement cards through the approved process.
INEC further reaffirmed its preparedness to conduct a free, fair, credible and inclusive governorship election in Osun State on August 15, 2026.

The latest extension for the submission of candidates’ details is expected to give political parties additional time to complete the nomination process as preparations intensify for the 2027 Governorship and State Assembly elections.
